Approved Cub Scout Camping Locations

Approved Cub Scout Camping

All National, State, County and Regional Parks are approved for Cub Scout camping by the Grand Canyon Council, Scouting America.  In addition to these camping locations, the following parks, national forest sites, and private parks have been reviewed and approved:

Heard Scout Pueblo – 1901 E. Dobbins Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85040

Description: Heart of Phoenix, base of South Mountain
Facilities/Programs: Tent & cabin camping, shooting sports, hiking, aquatics, nature area, COPE & climbing, restrooms
Directions: From Phoenix, I‑10 E → S 32nd St → E Baseline Rd → S 20th St

Camp Geronimo – 2599 W Weber Creek Road, Payson, AZ 85541

Description: Nearly 200 acres of forest and meadows at the base of the Mogollon Rim, with trails leading to the edge of the Colorado Plateau
Facilities/Programs: Tent & cabin camping, shooting sports, hiking trails, nature area, swimming pool, fishing, restrooms & showers
Directions: From Phoenix, State Highway 87 N → through Payson ~12 mi → Control Road turn-off (marker 265) → right on Control Road (7 mi dirt) → left on Weber Creek Rd to camp (~1.5–2 hr drive)

Camp Raymond – 7709 S Boy Scout Camp Rd, Parks, AZ 86018

Description: Located on the edge of Sycamore Canyon among cool pines; campsites under tall ponderosa pines, close to the camp center
Facilities/Programs: Tent camping, picnic tables, nature area, shooting sports, hiking, aquatics, fishing, showers & latrines
Directions: From Phoenix, I‑17 N → I‑40 W → Parks exit 178 → south ~10 mi following county signs to camp (~3 hr drive)

R-C Scout Ranch – 19887 E AZ Hwy 260, Payson, AZ 85541

Description: Former cattle ranch at the base of Christopher Mountain, hosting youth groups year-round
Facilities/Programs: Tent & cabin camping, horseback riding, shooting sports, fishing, hiking, nature area, showers & restrooms
Directions: From Payson, Highway 260 E ~19.6 mi from Hwy 87 → entrance between mile markers 271–272 (south side)

The Grand Canyon Council is always looking for new camping opportunities for its Cub Packs. If your site is not listed on the approved camping location list, then the Pack Overnight Campout Site Appraisal Form must be completed at least two weeks prior to the camping trip by a BALOO trained adult and submitted to gcc.program@scouting.org for approval.
