The following unit leader Awards will be recognized at the Baden-Powell Fellowship event in the spring.

Unit Leader Award of Merit

Quality unit leadership is the key to a quality unit program—and it leads to better Scout retention.

Statistics show that if young people stay engaged in the program for at least five years, the BSA’s influence likely will stay with them for the rest of their lives. A quality Scouting experience will help keep Scouts in the program, and the Boy Scouts of America created the Unit Leader Award of Merit to recognize the quality unit leaders who make that happen. The nominee must be a currently registered Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, Advisor, or Skipper who has served in that position at least 18 continuous months.

Send your completed application to awards@scoutingaz.org

Remember to attach a statement by the unit committee chair on behalf of the unit committee attesting to the nominee’s performance as unit leader. For Scoutmaster nominations, also attach a statement by the troop’s senior patrol leader. For crew Advisor nominations, also attach a statement by the crew president. For Skipper nominations, also attach a statement by the ship’s boatswain.

Religious Emblems Awards Program

To encourage members to grow stronger in their faith, religious groups have developed the following religious emblems programs. Scouting America has approved of these programs and allows the emblems to be worn on the official uniform. The various religious groups administer the programs. Check with your local council service center or contact the religious organization directly to obtain the curriculum booklets. For more information about Religious Emblems Programs see links below or contact Kathy Polowski, Religious Activities Committee Chair at kpolo55@gmail.com.

Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor

The Vigil Honor is the highest honor that the Order of the Arrow can bestow upon its members for service to lodge, council, and Scouting.  Alertness to the needs of others is the mark of the Vigil Honor. It calls for an individual with an unusual awareness of the possibilities within each situation.  The Vigil Honor is a high mark of distinction and recognition reserved for those Arrowmen who, by reason of exceptional service, personal effort, and unselfish interest, have made distinguished contributions beyond the immediate responsibilities of their position of office to one or more of the following:  Their local Lodge, the Order of the Arrow, the Scouting community, or a Scout Camp.

Questions regarding the annual nomination and selection process should be directed to the Wipala Wiki Lodge Chief: Chief@wipalawiki.org
